Are young people really disassociated with nature? - article for OCR
Emily speculates on the reasons why young people don't seem to have much interest in nature and why a Natural History GCSE will be valuable
I didn't want to believe that my generation were as disconnected from nature as I kept hearing, so I set out to investigate levels of youth engagement within my school - with a simple idea: did young people have nature photos in their phone galleries? The thinking behind this is every nature photo, whether its subject is a landscape, a bird or a flower, represents a moment when a young person has stopped to appreciate and admire nature. It is the act of noticing nature that is vital to forming a generation who care for and feel connected to the natural world.
