Emily Hunt

Emily Hunt is an 18 year old writer from rural Warwickshire. She won her first award aged 13 for Best Nature Poem in the Betjeman Poetry Prize. Since then she hasn't stopped writing. Nature and the environment is Emily's passion, and her writing reflects this. She is particularly interested in fungi and also corvids (crows) following her experience of rehabilitating two rescue fledgling jackdaws. Emily's writing and love of nature has opened up lots of opportunities - she is a youth councillor for Reserva: the Youth Land Trust, a member of the SEEd youth board and also a youth voice in the creation of the OCR Natural History GCSE. She has set up her own youth engagement project The Green Gallery, having become increasingly passionate about connecting young people with nature. She has won many awards for her poetry (listed below) and has also had articles and blogs published online, in magazines and in newspapers. Emily won the title of Warwickshire Young Poet Laureate in 2022, and spent a year as the laureate performing at events, working with young people and writing commissioned pieces. During this time she also ran her first workshop with The Wildlife Trust and judged a poetry competition. Her laureateship took her to some amazing venues, including the Birmingham Hippodrome, the RSC The Other Place, Compton Verney, and even a pop-up stage in the centre of Coventry. Emily is continuing her poetry following the laureateship, performing at events and running workshops - she has upcoming workshops with the Cameron Bespolka Trust and the Sherbourne Valley River Project.
